Scrappy
Scrappy - CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE
Scrappy is currently in a board and train facility. He will need a foster or foster-to-adoptive home when he has completed his training. You can read more about Scrappy below.
1.5 year old male
Located in Kingston, Ontario
Adoption fee 700
Scrappy was adopted a year ago and due to no fault of his, he was returned to the rescue when his adopters realized that he needed more than they could provide.
A while after he was adopted, he contracted a disease from the dog park which had him secluded from other dogs for many months.
For a number of challenging reasons, his adoptive family was unable to return him to training once his health improved, and Scrappy did not learn the basic skills such a smart and busy boy needed.
Scrappy is a sweet boy, under his thick skin, who is incredibly bright, full of energy and personality, but he does exhibit fear aggression. He is afraid of everything that is new and unknown. He loves head rubs and will lie upside down on his foster dad for chin scratches. He loves to give kisses too!
Scrappy is anxious and checks out every new sound that he encounters and makes sure that the house is safe. He tends to play with his mouth first but does react to ouch and licks you afterwards.
He knows sit, lay down stay (somewhat - until he gets distracted) and give paw. He doesn’t resource guard.
He is always looking for something to do and needs stimulation and attention or he will let you know via finding things he shouldn’t.
He is house trained. He hasn’t quite figured out how to walk politely on leash, but with training, he is more than smart enough to figure it out.
Scrappy would benefit from someone who can spend significant time teaching him and preferably a house without another dog at first. The foster believes that once he learns that not all dogs are threats, he would make a great dog friend and apprentice to a calmer dog.
When he isn’t bouncing off the walls with energy, he loves belly rubs and gives very sassy and opinionated huffs.
He is good with cats and babies, but a home with small children running around will probably scare him.
Scrappy is looking for an adopter that knows how young, unconfident Shepherds can be. An experienced home willing to work with him is the best option for Scrappy.
