Nuka
3 year old female
Fostered in Cambridge Ontario
Meet the most famous dog currently in care at BSDRO, Nuka! The beautiful “Wolf Dog” who blew up on TikTok for not just her wolfie look, but her amazing story. Her rescuer (found on TikTok at THE ADHD Emporium) posted multiple videos of Nuka’s rescue and story that went quite viral, with nearly 6 million total views! We were lucky enough to have her reach out to us here at BSDRO to help get Nuka into the safety of our foster care program.
Nuka is a husky mix with a heart as big as her home territory of Nunavut. At only 3 years old, Nuka walked nearly 100 kilometers across Nunavut, where she found herself in Rankin Inlet and into the arms of her rescuer. When she was posted on Facebook as a found dog, her previous owners requested Nuka be euthanized as they were unable to come and retrieve her. Her rescuer, an amazing and determined woman known as Marmaid, fought to save Nuka, and that’s where their beautiful adventure began.
She and Nuka had the time of their lives together, learning tricks, cuddling, taking baths, and changing one another’s lives. Marmaid, as sad as she was, knew that she was unable to give Nuka the forever home that she needed, and selflessly sought to get Nuka into a rescue where she may find the life she was destined for. She reached out to many rescues and individuals before finding us, and when we heard Nuka’s story, we were more than happy to help give her the life she truly deserves.
First step: Get Out of Nunavut!
After some bad weather and flight cancellations, Nuka and her rescuer made their way via plane from Rankin Inlet to Winnipeg where they had the best hotel night. Next, they flew from Winnipeg to Montreal, and then Montreal to Ottawa, where the next part of Nuka’s journey began. We set up an elaborate transportation train to get Nuka all the way to Southern Ontario, and it worked! On the last leg of her trip, her drivers fell madly in love with her and asked if they could foster her instead - and Nuka has been living the best life ever since!
Now, after a journey totalling OVER 4000 kilometres, consisting of a long walk, multiple plane rides, many, MANY car rides, and the labour of love of dozens of committed humans - Nuka is ready to find her forever home.
Without further adieu…

Fostered in Cambridge, Ontario
Nuka is a beautiful husky mix who has proven herself to be good in a home with both men and women, children, dogs, and cats. She is leash trained, potty trained, and sleeps happily in her crate on her cozy bed every night.
Her favourite pastime is sitting on the back of the couch staring at the squirrels in the front yard (and probably dreaming of them being a tasty snack).
She loves to play with her toys and is always up for a good game of tug of war. She's also recently learned how to fetch! But her favourite activity is playing with other dogs. Because of this, Nuka needs a home that has at least one other active dog who is able to match her energy and zest.
Nuka is always up for adventure, heading out many days and weekends with her foster parents to the cottage, on hikes, and to her favourite swimming holes. She will need a family who can continue this active lifestyle with her. At the end of the day, she's happy to curl up on the couch and snuggle down.
Nuka loves her people, she loves her dog siblings, and she loves life. She is one of the most entertaining dogs you will ever meet. She will keep you on your toes - in a good way!
Nuka’s amazing rescuer ran a DNA test through Embark DNA, and while it turns out Nuka is not the Wolf Dog the internet thought she was, we did get to learn exactly who Nuka was down to her very core…
